Ubuntu is a linux distribution, an Operating System for your computer.
There are two flavours of Ubuntu Linux
The Desktop Edition, is like Windows XP or Windows Vista.
The Server Edition, is like Windows NT, or Windows Server.
At Penguin Tech Services, we use the Desktop Edition and that is what we can install onto our new Computer Systems or your existing PC hardware.
We have chosen Ubuntu because it is one of the best Linux Desktop distributions in the linux community.
It has a commercial sponsor, namely Canonical who are the drivers behind the six monthly release cycle. An updated version of Ubuntu every 6 months.
Ubuntu Linux uses the Gnome desktop environment
There are thousands of FREE applications available that run on Linux.
